Why I Love "God Has Been So Good to Me" by Arlice DeFoor

Why I love the song "God Has Been So Good to Me" is because it is how my heart feels. I guess the chorus caught my attention first:

God has been so good to me, And I'm thankful for a fine family.

(He has given me a fine family; A faithful man who would not have considered missing church even if I wanted to; one that loves his family dearly. Three children that we are so thankful for; even though they are grown now, they are still following the Lord — not because of Terry and me — but because they love the Lord. Two sons-in-law that also love the Lord and that we could not ask to be any better to us. (My husband, Terry, has dementia now and is declining as time goes on and these two fellows as well as our children have been such a great help to us; for which I am so very thankful.) Three beautiful grandchildren that I love dearly, and that I pray will be saved and live their lives for the Lord.

The little church that I attend, And for all my Christian friends.

I am so thankful for my little Stoner Church. The little church where my mom took me and I was saved at 12 years old; the church that fed me and helped me to grow in the Lord; who loved me. My mom passed when I was almost 13 and my dad had a drinking problem, so I and my siblings were dispersed among relatives. I lived with an aunt and her family that went to Stoners, so I got to grow up there, and Terry & I raised our family there. I cherish my church and her love and help throughout my whole life. And as far as my Christian friends, I cherish the memories of those who have passed at Stoners, the old ones now at Stoners, and the middle age and young. They are all very precious to me. As well as all my Christian friends wherever they go to church. I've had much joy in my life because of "all" my Christian friends. God has been so good to me!

And the verses speak for themselves:

Verse 1: I've always had a place to sleep, Clothes to wear, and food to eat. Always, Always!!! Yes, God has been so good to me.

Thank you Lord for mom and dad, The best friends on earth I've had.

(I've always had to think on this a little — Mama was the best, and what I can say about Daddy was that he loved us and I loved him although I wished he had gone to church and chosen a better path for him and us. — But in spite of it, all 8 of us brothers and sisters have professed a hope in the Lord and we are all so very close. —That is God's love!!!) Truly, God has been so good to me.

Verse 2: Thank God I live where men are free, Where there's love and liberty. God has been so good to me. Amen!!! I am very thankful for the good old USA!

I am now 69 years old, and I can say God has been so good to me! There have been ups and downs in my life, but God was always there. And if all I have, he took away, I believe then I still would have to say God has been so good to me!

I have truly been blessed with much joy in my Christian walk. And I don't believe He'll fail me now, just a few steps from home.
