Community Revival Notes: 11/10/22
The “old” Van Wert church was built in 1846. It’s hard to sit inside and not imagine what things those four walls have seen and heard. It is more of a museum now and is upkept by the Euharlee Valley Historical Society, and I am very thankful that they allow us to use the church for its’ original, intended purpose.
The wooden slat-back pews are uncomfortable compared to the modern-day padded versions, but I love them. They remind me of simpler times, and while I am a big proponent of using technological advances for the good of the kingdom, I think a return to simpler, less-polished worship would be good for the church at large.
We heard some wonderful singing by Will & Kaci Dover with help from Casey Waits, as well as from Blake Hamby.
Bro. Landon Hamby preached a wonderful message on “Decisions”. He read a portion of the story of Abraham from Genesis 12 and 13, and began his message by reminding us that we make decisions daily and that every decision comes with either a consequence or reward. He then contrasted the decisions of Abraham and his nephew Lot, and emphasized the outcome of their choices, especially the situation that Lot found himself in.
Landon had good news for us though as he preached that a bad decision did not have to be the end of the story and used the parable of the prodigal son to show how one could come home even after bad choices. This, of course, is just a very quick synopsis of the message as Bro. Landon brought out many more great points.
This was definitely a word fitly spoken for me and has given me a lot to think about. That is the mark of an effective sermon, causing the hearers to think, especially when they continue to think about it even after the service is over. What really hit home with me is that every decision matters, even the ones that may seem inconsequential at the time.
I will eventually have the audio from this service available here on the site.
A big thank you to Bro. Landon, our singers, and all who came out. Looking forward to Friday & Saturday!
